How to Stay Safe in the Sun this Summer

Summer is here and with that comes a lot of time spent outdoors! Make sure your entire family is safe and protected when out in the sun this summer! There are several very easy things you can do to help protect yourself and your family!

Sunscreen:

The first thing that you should do when you are going to be exposed to the sun is apply sunscreen! Sunscreen has so many benefits including preventing sunburn, reducing skin cancer risk, preventing premature aging, and keeping the skin healthy! It is recommended that you wear at least SPF 30 and reapply at least every two hours! They make sunscreen for all types of skin so you are sure to find one that works well for you and your family!

Shade:

Staying in shaded areas like under a tree, umbrella, tent or other cover is a great way to stay protected from the sun! When you are in the shade you are less exposed to the sun’s harmful rays! Staying in shaded areas can also be helpful to keep you cool, especially on those hot summer days! It is recommended to stay in the shade during the sun’s peak hours of 10 am-4 pm!

Hats:

Wearing a hat is another great way to protect yourself from the sun! Wearing a hat provides shade for your face, ears, and neck! Hats with large visors can also help protect your eyes from the sun! The great thing about a hat is that it is portable and creates shade for your face wherever you go.

Sunglasses:

Don’t forget to protect your eyes! Wearing sunglasses will help protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays of the sun! They will also make it easier to see when it is very bright outside! They make sunglasses for all ages in all sorts of styles so grab a pair for the entire family and protect your eyes!

UPF Clothes:

UPF clothes are great to protect your skin from the sun! There are all types of clothing made with material that protects from UV radiation! Wearing clothing that is rated 50 UPF can actually block at least 98% of radiation! To protect your kids while they are swimming try putting them in rash guards that have UPF protection! They also make specific UPF clothing for activities like fishing, golfing, and more!

Remember that even if it is overcast the sun can still be harmful! You should be taking measures to protect yourself and your family from the sun every time you go outside! Happy summer everyone!
